Our communities will be celebrating All Hallows Eve in the coming days. If your church is in a neighborhood where trick-or-treaters will be passing by, might you turn your congregation’s porch light on and gather a few smiling saints to stand outside the door with treats ready for your young guests? Some of our congregations will be making their parking lots welcome spaces for trick-or-treaters with “trunk or treat” celebrations. Thank you, St. Paul’s UCC in Keokuk, for teaching me about this joyous act of hospitality some years ago!

For the children…

17% of our Iowa’s children live in poverty. This season of harvest is a good time to make a gift of food while working toward a day when there are no hungry children in our communities.   Donate a box of your favorite childhood foods to your local food pantry, along with a check to support the pantry’s holy work.

Have you and members of your congregation been reading “Hot Dogs and Hamburgers” as a part of the United buy prednisone for cats online Church of Christ One Read program? Are you involved in and planning ways to support literacy for the children (and adults!) of your community? Let us know what you’re doing!

For the children…

Children are dying and are being left orphaned as a result of the current outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa. One Great Hour of Sharing funds are at work, through United Church of Christ Disaster Ministries and Global Ministries, supporting sanitation and education efforts and the purchase of protective gear in collaboration with partner organizations in Liberia and Sierra Leone.   It’s time for One more Great Hour of Sharing. Use this link to donate online

or send your check to Wider Church Ministries, with “Ebola Virus” in the memo line, to:

Thank you, dear sisters and brothers, for all that you are doing for the children as together we boldly follow Jesus!
