The Long and Winding Road Gets Shorter
At the end of this week, Iowa Religious Media Services (IRMS) will initiate the process of dissolving as a corporation. Since we could find no resource center in the Midwest that was equipped to take our resources in total, the IRMS Board of Directors has decided to sell our resources to interested churches, member denominations and individuals. We do this in part to make sure we will meet our financial commitments through the end of 2019.
This process will take place in two phases:
Phase 1 – At this time, you are invited to submit a bid on our 36-foot hand-painted canvas labyrinth (KT219). Created by Labyrinth Enterprises in St. Louis, the modified 7-circuit Chartres-pattern canvas labyrinth was purchased in 2008 at a cost of $4,000.00. It has been a very popular resource with those subscribers who seek a meaningful spiritual experience. The labyrinth is in excellent condition. It has always been used indoors, and, as far as we know, no one has walked on it in shoes. Divided into three sections, the labyrinth weighs approximately 100 pounds.
Bids will be accepted until Saturday, August 10th, or until such time we receive a bid that we deem acceptable. Once your bid has been accepted, we ask for payment within 14 days. The accepted bid will not include any shipping charges. Since shipping will be very expensive, we encourage the winning bidder to pick up the resource. Bids and questions about the labyrinth should be directed to email@example.com.
Phase 2 – Clients and denominations will have the opportunity to purchase DVDs, books, and multimedia kits from our extensive collection. Assuming that all outstanding resources have been returned, this second opportunity will come the first week of August. It will include all of the items in our online catalog, which will be sold “as is.” At this point it is not our plan to reduce prices below the original asking price which will be approximately 50% of what the resources cost us.
The list of available resources can be found in our on-line catalog.
The sale begins in August and will continue until all of our resources are sold or until such time that we determine we must end the sale.
We are indeed sorry about the need to close this ministry. So many individuals have communicated with us about how valuable our services have been to them and have asked: “What are we going to do now?” As one client shared with me, “I have built my entire Sunday School curriculum around IRMS resources. I am deeply sorry this service is ending.”
Over the past 18-plus years, I have enjoyed getting to know so many of you and working with you. I will miss these relationships immensely. At the same time, I look forward to whatever lies ahead.
