The Certification School in Progressive Christian Youth Ministry is a life-altering experience that will form you to be the leaders God has called you to be. You will gain valuable insight into the most current and effective approaches to Christian education and youth and young adult ministries. Take those ideas back to your church for immediate impact. This program includes a week-long intensive training followed by 5-6 webinars and a concluding retreat. During that time, participants will develop a ministry plan for their church or ministry setting for immediate impact. Your ministry will never be the same!

Cost of the program is $2,000 if registered by June 15, 2012, $2,200 after June 15 and includes all programs, materials and room and board. Travel expenses are not included. Scholarships are available. Download our Certification School Scholarship Application and send or email to the Iowa Conference Office by June 15, 2012.

Based on a model created by Vibrant Faith Ministries, participants receive theological, biblical and social and psychological studies through adventure expedition and small group experiences that model effective approaches to youth and family ministry.

The program is a collaboration of the Minnesota Conference UCC, the Iowa Conference UCC, and United Theological Seminary in partnership with Vibrant Faith Ministries. Faculty and staff from these organizations will provide leadership and teach courses and workshops offered during the training. The training integrates the eight points of progressive Christianity outlined by the Center for Progressive Christianity.

“When I signed up for Certification School, I went expecting to come away with great ideas for the ministry within the church I am currently serving. I received that and much more. I am working on a clearer vision of what I want my personal ministry to look like, the growth areas I need to work on to be a more effective leader, and best of all, a network of new friends that I look forward to walking with on our faith journeys.”
– Heidi Hulme, Licensed Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries, First Congregational Church UCC, Moline, IL

“The certification school had a huge impact on my life. One of the major impacts is my decision to put off going to graduate school this fall. (I was ready to start the Master of Social Work program at University of Northern Iowa in August 2011). I am very excited to develop a ministry plan filled with the things I so believe in. I want to devote the necessary time to make the plan a life-changing opportunity for all.”
